Monday, September 15: Welcome Paul ad the "Team Sperco" annual charter! With the weather forecast calling for high winds, the group chose to sail fifty miles offshore and fish where we may find some blue-fin tuna. The decision paid off and provided much action all night. Paul Sperco won back the "Coxy Cup" by landing the first fish of the night. This big tuna weighed in at over 100 pounds. Many more blue-fin were caught and released throughout the evening and well into the daytime. Rich ONeal landed a big blue-fin also in the hundred pound category, which the group kept. Other highlights include: The "Team", consisting of Paul Sperco senior and junior, Randy, Deb, Chuck Frith, Marty Barlow, Eddie Mackin and Mark Carduner, had a banner day, catching and releasing 28 tuna. While most were caught on bait, both flat lining and fishing deep, Ed Mackin caught all of his on jigs. Tony Petrolonis, Jim Piersen and Chris Fosteralso had a great time catching and releasing. Some false albacore were also caught and released. We spotted porpoises and some whales which made the trip more interesting. Please visit our on-line tuna calendar for availability for the remainder of the season: http://www.partyboatnj.com/tuna-calendar.php Call Cindy @ 732 701-1094 to make a reservation. Spots are limited.
Sunday, September 14: We sailed back out to the canyon, with a different area in mind to fish in. We had much better fishing conditions with greater results. Highlights of the trip include: Dave Rose landed the first yellow-fin of the night. Fred Rutz followed that by landing the next and keeping his "consistent catching" streak alive. Anthony and Joe Bucci each landed tunas and Chris Johnson had a decent sized swordfish and a yellow-fin.
Saturday, September 13: We fished out in the Hudson Canyon in weather a bit more extreme than was forecasted. It poured down rain "sideways" all night. a handful of hardy fishermen stayed at the rail and fished all night. Many fished in the morning hours, after the rain ceased. We had a run in with a hammerhead shark out in the canyon. We moved in-shore about fifty miles and fished in a spot where blue-fin tuna were spotted. We had a couple of pickups, but no fish were landed. We spotted many porpoise pods and some families of whales.

Monday and Tuesday showed great fishing with bait all day long at the Rocks. Wednesday and Thursday fishing at the Rocks was slow starting and did not produce as much as earlier in the week. Friday, fishing was very slow starting and we picked away all day. Jigging worked well late in the day. Fish averaged about nine pounds. Danny Titen won the pool on Friday, with an eleven pound blue fish.

As one person nicely stated; “A totally awesome first offshore tuna trip aboard the Sea Devil for the season!” We sailed out to the Hudson Canyon, anchored up in about 600 feet of 77 degree water. The chum slick started and we first spotted fish around 12:30 a.m. Bill Engle was the first customer to land a yellow fin tuna; moments after Cindy had the first one on the boat at around 12:45 a.m. Both these fish weighed were small. Chris Zotti had the next small yellow fin on the boat and a few other anglers hooked into some fish. There were many skip jack tuna swimming in this area and a dozen or more were caught. We had some lulls in the action; however there was much activity throughout the night and early morning until about 6:45 a.m. More than half the anglers on the boat caught some yellow fin tunas! All the tuna were small except for a forty pound yellow fin caught by Frank Ryan. Cindy hooked into a 45 pound swordfish and only with the expert assistance and coaching from Tommy Russell and Mike Agiovlasitis; she was able to get the fish in the boat. Other highlights include: Tom Lucarelli landed two yellow fin tunas, as did Bill Engle. Cindy caught the three yellow fin tuna limit. Dan Mazzo, along with his buddy Leo Prepelue, each caught their first yellow fin tunas ever. While most fish were caught with bait, Mike Agiovlasitis and Tommy Russell hooked several tuna on jigs and passed them along to customers to reel in. Milton Haring caught and landed a tuna as he trolled, after we picked up the anchor to head home. Added bonuses: We enjoyed watching a whale surface a few times when we were just an hour or so into the trip. A pod of Porpoises swam near the boat before daybreak and then four bottlenose dolphins swam with the boat right at the bow for about a quarter of an hour on the way home. The weather was about as good as it gets in the canyon and made for a pretty perfect day!We are bluefishing on Sunday August 24 through Friday, August 29.We still have some spots available for Friday, Saturday and Sunday night offshore tuna trip departures this up coming weekend. Most weekends throughout the remainder of September and early October are sold out. Please check our calendar for availability. http://www.partyboatnj.com/tuna-calendar.php
Sea Devil Good early morning jigging for blue fish
Wed Aug 20 2008, 09:33AM
Good early morning jigging for blue fish, aboard the Sea Devil, off the shores of the little red church. We spotted blues on the surface and made the first stop with many anglers hooked into big blue fish pretty quickly. We followed the fish for several more drifts in and around that area, heading somewhat more east each time. Then, like yesterday, they vanished. We chose to head up to the Rocks and anchor up. It was a good decision. We started a chum slick and switched over to bait. We had a slow steady pick at the big blues and stayed out a little later so more could catch fish. More fish were caught on jigs. Most fish weighed about eight pounds. Lance Hayes, Stony Point, NY landed the pool winning eleven pound blue fish. It was the first fish he caught on a jig, early in the day. Brian Witte, Bergenfield, NJ (with Chuck’s group) came in close with a ten and ½ pound bluefish. It was the first fish he caught, late in the day, on bait. Although Dave Estenes, Bridgewater, seemed to catch more fish on jigs, his buddy, Angelo Torrisi, Springfield, caught the last two fish of the day on bait. Paul Sperco returned, and after a good catch of blues on jigs, he went to the bottom when we arrived at the rocks and had a few keeper sea bass. The weather was beautiful and we all had fun. More highlights include: Chuck Safarian, Lodi, NJ brought ten friends fishing with him. Only one in the group got skunked. Shannon Ryan, Delran, NJ was with Chuck’s group and caught one early on a jig and later with bait. This was her first time out blue fishing. We think Warren Witte out fished Steve? Young John Paul Oses caught one on jigs and one with bait. Pat Werschulz, Cranford, NJ hooked in to a big blue fish. Kim Farrington, Farmingdale, caught one on a jig and later on Greg caught a big one on bait. Allie Pearson, Ridgewood caught one on a jig early on. This was her first try at blue fishing and she says that it was as tough and exciting as described on our web site, How to catch a blue fish. Dennis Roberts jr, Cornwall on the Hudson, NY fished with Lance Hayes, Jr, getting in shape for tuna season. Howard Kuschick, Royal Oak, MI, did the same. Our first offshore tuna boat departs on Friday evening and is sold out. There are still spots available for the Saturday night trip. Call Cindy to make a reservation.
Fair fishing for blue fish in and around the Mud Hole.
Mon Aug 18 2008, 09:39AM
Fair fishing for blue fish in and around the Mud Hole. We started out towards the Rocks and received reports of no action there, so we changed our course. We spotted blue fish near the Mud Hole and made a drift that resulted with fifteen or more anglers hooked in almost immediately, all on jigs. Bogdan Rizoiu, Voorhees, NJ, landed the first big blue fish up in the bow. There was so much action in the stern and on the port side; many fish were landed soon after that. We made three more drifts that resulted in frenzied action, again, all on jigs. Then the fish vanished. We sailed for quite a while in and around the Mud Hole and spotted few fish. We stopped and made a few more drifts, chumming and trying bait. These drifts produced three or four fish caught on each drift, again all on jigs. Most fish weighed around eight pounds. The fish did not take the bait today. Highlights include: Keith Jon Cline, Bordentown, NJ landed the pool winning eleven pound blue fish. Ten year old Anthony Spiridigliozzi, Hampton, NJ came in close with a fish almost eleven pounds. Sal Costa hooked into a small albacore or bonita. It almost spooled his reel and he lost it, yet he claims it was the best part of the day for him, even though he caught six big blue fish. Bucky Sculthrope, Cream Ridge, NJ, had a very good catch of blues, he claims more than his last time out. Team Sperco, (only Paul and Deb today) produced great results with a steady catch throughout the earlier part of the day. (We missed you, JD, Marty and Chuck.) Beautiful weather and calm seas helped to make the day enjoyable. We are now sailing Monday through Friday for blue fish. Please arrive at the boat by 7 a.m. Our first over night canyon trip departs Friday evening and is sold out. We still have availability on the Saturday night trip. Please call Cindy at 732 701-1094 if you wish to reserve an offshore tuna spot. http://www.partyboatnj.com/tuna-calendar.php

Saturday, August 16: Excellent fishing for blues on bait. We sailed up to the Shrewsbury Rocks, spotted some fish and anchored up. As soon as the bait lines were in the water, Chris Zotti and Fred Rutz hooked into big blues. Chris was first to land a fish. Very quickly many anglers followed, with more than six people on at once, often. Some anglers tried jigs, but quickly switched back to bait when no blues took the jigs. Most fish weighed fro six to ten pounds, with Chris Zotti, Summit, NJ, catching a twelve pound pool winner. All anglers caught fish today and many caught more than a half dozen. Some highlights include: Congratulations to Bob Tihansky, Phoenixville, PA. He was with friends Robert Reber, Dan Michny, Andy Tihansky and AJ Tihansky to celebrate his up coming wedding. AJ landed the first big bluefish in the group and Andy had the most. They all caught fish and had a great time. Michael English and friends from Lancaster, PA hammered the blues today. Mike, along with Tra Watson tied for most fish caught in the group. Greg Webster and Corey Smith added some big blues to full the bags, also. Trevor and Neville Sealy, along with Mary Ann Pardo, Englewood, NJ, caught eight big blues. The Rafferty family, Philadelphia, PA caught a dozen fish. Dad, Tom out fished both Tommy and Kate. Kate did not have quantity; yet caught the biggest fish in that group. Jasmine Tan, and Wei Zhang, Secaucus, caught many fish along with Scott Lau, Trenton. Wei landed the first and Jasmine caught the most. The weather was pretty perfect and all enjoyed the day. We sail everyday for bluefish. Please arrive at the boat by 7 a.m.
We had very good blue fishing up on the Rocks today. We started with some anglers jigging for blues just south of the rocks. Cindy, along with Ryan Erdei, put the bait lines out immediately and each had a fish on the boat in very short order. We switched all rods over to bait and started a slow and steady catch. The fish were small today, averaging about two pounds. Paul Geelan caught the pool winner which weighed seven pounds. The bait fishing slowed down some and we made a move further north. It took some time to find the blues again; yet when we found them they were breaking on the surface and we had a lot of action, all on jigs, to finish the day with some great catches. It was a beautiful day on the water. We look for more great fishing in the days to follow.

The Marilyn Jean II reports great fishing this weekend!
The Marilyn Jean II reported in with another great day on the water! On Saturday, the Marilyn Jean I ran a fluking trip. They took a ride to the east and found a nice area of bigger fish. They landed 10 keepers in the 3 1/2 to 4 1/2 lb range during the morning tide. The Marilynn Jean II had great fishin on their last couple of night trips. On Friday, they landed 60 stripers up to 14 lbs and 12 gorilla sized blues to go along with the bass. All action was on the worms after dark. Yesterday morning's trip on the Marilyn Jean II ended up with a mix of fluke and JUMBO seabass. Most of the fluke were on the small side, but they ended up with a dozen bass between 3 and 5 lbs. The afternoon trip was a totally different story. With conditions just perfect for fluking, they hit the channel and had wide open fluking action! They ended up with over 200 fluke for the trip up to 4 1/2 lbs. On Saturday night, the stripers bit wide well again and they ended up with 50 fish to 21 lbs along with a dozen big blues!
The Marilyn Jean II departs daily at 7 AM, 12 PM and 7 PM, for info or to buy tickets online, click Marilyn Jean
Captian Mike Reports in from the Brooklyn VI. On Saturday, the fishing was great! Friday night and Saturday produced excellent fishing on the big blues. In the morning, they started out jigging and caught smaller fish in the 3-5 lb range. Unsatisfied with the quality they were getting, they went offshore and started a chumline. It took a few stops to find what they were looking for, but once they did, ALL HELL BROKE LOOSE!!! the fish where biting all around the boat and at one time, they had as many as 15 fish going! The fish were all nice sized blues in the 8-12 lb range and the pool fish weighed over 15 lbs. Today was a another banner day and the fish bit wide open with as many as 25-30 fish hooked at the same time. These were all the nice big grade of blues in the 8-15 lb range. Captain Mike says that this is the bite that they have been waiting for all season long. They have plenty of room avaialable on their trips this week, so head on down to get in on the hot bite. The boat fishes bluefish Tuesday through Sunday, departing at 7 AM and 7 PM.
Tomorrow, the Brooklyn VI departs on it's weekly Ocean Fluke Marathon trip which departs at 7 AM. The big fluke are biting in the deep water right now, so don't miss this trip!
